Who is the Philadelphia Bicycle Insurrection?
- The Philadelphia Bicycle Insurrection (PBI) is a self-organizing, grassroots movement made up of hundreds well over a thousand Philadelphia bicycle users from all walks of life and their supporters.
- The PBI was born on November 19, 2009 and continues to grow, exponentially.
Why was the Philadelphia Bicycle Insurrection established?
- To oppose anti-bicycle legislation proposed by Philadelphia City Councilmen Frank Dicicco (Democrat, 1st District) and James Kenney (Democrat, At-Large).
- To push back, hard, at negative publicity, openly hostile press coverage and politically opportunistic smear campaigns aimed at bicycle users in Philadelphia. We’re here to hold politicians and media accountable to the truth.
- To act as a voice on behalf of all Philadelphia bicycle users, afford a sense of power to our participants & community and to speak out to our media and elected officials. The PBI exists to remind them exactly who they work for and make sure they understand, in no uncertain terms, that come Election Day, we’re going to remember who was on the right side of this issue.
What are the objectives of the Philadelphia Bicycle Insurrection?
- To fight the illegal and unenforceable legislation proposed by Dicicco & Kenney and any similar initiatives at any level of government.
- To dismantle and discredit the Myth of the Scofflaw Cyclist.
- To reconstruct and propagate a narrative and understanding based on the truth: That BICYCLE USERS ARE THE MOST AT-RISK AND ABUSED CLASS IN THE PHILADELPHIA TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM.
